  • Main Ingredients:

    • Khoya (also known as mawa) – a reduced milk product that forms the base of the sweet.
    • Sugar – for sweetness.
    • Cardamom – for flavor.
    • Ghee – adds richness and a distinct aroma.
    • Sometimes nuts like cashews or almonds are added for crunch.
  • Texture: The peda has a soft, dense, and slightly grainy texture. Unlike other pedas which can be more smooth, Dharwad Peda is known for its unique, slightly chewy consistency.

  • Flavor: The sweet has a rich, milky flavor, balanced with the aromatic essence of cardamom and a subtle caramelized taste from the slow cooking of milk solids. The use of ghee enhances its richness.

  • Preparation: The process of making Dharwad Peda involves simmering milk to reduce it to a thick consistency, then adding sugar and ghee. The mixture is stirred continuously over a low flame to prevent burning and to achieve the correct texture. Once the mixture thickens, it is shaped into small round or oval balls and sometimes garnished with pistachios or other nuts.

  • Color: The peda typically has a light golden to off-white color, with a slight brown hue due to the caramelization of milk.
